Katy City Council

The council consists of 5 members — 2 Councilmembers elected from Ward A, 2 Councilmembers elected from Ward B, and 1 Councilmember elected at-large. The term of Councilmembers is 2 years and shall not exceed 3 consecutive 2-year terms. Terms are staggered, and there is an Election each year in May.

A Councilmember must be a U.S. citizen, at least 21 years old, and a qualified voter residing within the City for at least 12 months prior to election; a candidate for Councilmember for a Ward must reside in the Ward for which he seeks election.
The City Council is the legislative body for the municipal government, and Council members are the City’s legislators whose primary duty is policymaking.

In addition to its lawmaking function, the City Council adopts the Budget of the City and its purchase procedures, exercises regulatory powers over the conduct and property of citizens, levies taxes, assesses fees and charges, fixes salaries and compensation of City officials and employees, creates Boards and Commissions, and represents the City in various organizations and issues at the local, state, and national level. See City Calendar for next Meeting.
