The
Police Department
Established in 1967, the KPD consists of sworn officers
and civilian/communication employees. Included is a
criminal investigation division; crime prevention officers;
K-9 partners trained in drug detection, tracking and
criminal apprehension.The department also has a Motorcycle
Division and Animal Control Division. The current fleet
consists of more than two dozen vehicles. All patrol
vehicles are equipped with an in-car video system and
Mobile Data Terminals (MDT’s) which are in-car
computers. This department also utilizes a Speed Monitoring
Trailer (nickname “KATIE”). This equipment
is capable of monitoring speed at a certain location
and recording the data on a traffic analysis computer.
THE STORE FRONT SUBSTATION
at Katy Mills Mall is located in the southeast corner,
near the Mall Management Offices, and currently houses
a lieutenant, sergeants and patrol officers (including
Bicycle Officers).
The
Department is also involved in community Crime Prevention
Programs. These include Vacation Watch, Child Fingerprinting,
Gun Safety, Bicycle Safety, Stranger Safety and other
programs. There is also a Bicycle registration program
and guided tours of the Police Station are conducted
on an almost weekly basis during the school.
