3 Painted Churches

The famous painted churches near Schulenburg, Texas include St. Mary’s Catholic Church in High Hill, St. Mary’s Church of the Assumption in Praha, and Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Dubina. Built by German and Czech immigrants in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these structures feature plain wooden exteriors that open to reveal vibrant hand-painted vaulted ceilings, stenciled pillars, and faux marbling.
