The City of Katy will begin mosquito spraying this month and will continue through October. Adjustments to the schedule may occur if there is an increase in mosquitoes or due to inclement weather. Each part of the city will be covered once per week- Monday through Thursday.
This service is available only to residents who live within the City of Katy city limits. Please note: Having a Katy postal address does not necessarily mean your home is within the city limits—it may be in the greater Katy area instead.

What You Can Do to Help
To effectively control the mosquito population, we need your help.
Mosquito larvae need at least five days in still water to develop into adult, biting mosquitoes that can transmit diseases. Help protect your home by treating areas on your property that the City’s spraying efforts may not reach. Use mosquito and bug repellent sprays to reduce breeding grounds and lower the risk of mosquito activity around your home.
Here are several examples of things you can do to help reduce the mosquito population and eliminate their breeding sites:
- Get rid of old tires, tin cans, buckets, drums, bottles, or any water-holding containers.
- Fill in or drain any low places (puddles, ruts, etc.) in the yard. The draining and filling of wetlands for mosquito control is not an acceptable approach.
- Keep drains, ditches, and culverts free of weeds and trash so water will drain properly.
- Keep roof gutters free of leaves and other debris.
- Cover trash containers to keep out rainwater.
- Repair leaky pipes and outside faucets.
- Empty plastic wading pools at least once a week and store indoors when not in use.
- Unused swimming pools should be drained and kept dry during the mosquito season.
- Fill in rotted tree holes and hollow stumps that hold water.
- Change the water in birdbaths and planted pots or drip trays at least once each week.
- Store boats covered or upside down, remove rainwater weekly.
- Keep grass cut and shrubbery well-trimmed around the house so adult mosquitoes will not hide there.
- Make sure ornamental ponds have fish, which will eat mosquito larvae.
- Repair window screens.
- When outdoors in the evening or when mosquitoes are biting, use personal protection measures to prevent mosquito bites such as insect repellent and appropriate clothing.
