Water Conservation Needed
Due to the extreme heat and lack of rain, the City of Katy is requesting that residents conserve water. Please limit all outdoor water use, including lawn/garden watering, window washing and car washing. Here are a few tips on how to be good stewards and protect our water supply:
- Prevent evaporation of water by watering lawns/gardens early in the morning or late in the evening, before 7AM and after 7PM. Please water no more than 3 times per week.
- When you are watering your lawn/garden, make sure that water is not running into the street, drain or ditch.
- Reduce domestic water use; take shorter showers and shut off the water until it’s time to rinse when brushing your teeth or washing your hands.
- Don’t ignore leaky faucets or sprinkler heads; they are often easy and inexpensive to repair. Turn off the valve under the sink until you get around to repairing the leak.
These actions are extremely important and can help conserve the City’s water supply, as well as, reduce the need to mandate restrictions per the City’s Drought Contingency Plan. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding. For more information regarding the Drought Contingency Plan, visit our Water Conservation Page.
