Katy TIRZ No. 1 is a tax increment financing district that encompasses much of the commercial corridor surrounding Katy Mills, Interstate 10, Cane Island Parkway, and other designated commercial properties within the City of Katy, which reinvests a portion of increased property tax revenues within a designated area to fund infrastructure, redevelopment, and economic development projects that enhance the community and strengthen the local tax base.
Created by the City of Katy in 1997, the TIRZ captures the growth in taxable value generated by new development and reinvests those funds into public improvements that support continued commercial investment and redevelopment. Projects may include transportation improvements, utilities, drainage infrastructure, public facilities, and other capital investments that encourage economic growth.
The Board of Directors oversees the Project and Financing Plan, reviews expenditures from the Tax Increment Fund, evaluates development projects, and makes recommendations regarding reinvestment priorities within the zone.
Through strategic reinvestment, Katy TIRZ No. 1 helps fund improvements that support business growth, attract private investment, and enhance the quality of development within the district.
