City of Katy May 2, 2026 General Officers' Election

The 2026 Regular Officers' Election will be held Saturday, May 2, 2026.  The following positions are up for election and will appear on the ballot for a three-year term:

  • Councilmember At-Large (Office currently held by Chris Harris) 
  • Councilmember Ward A (Office currently held by Janet Corte)
  • Councilmember Ward B (Office currently held by Rory Robertson)

Early voting by personal appearance: will be conducted each weekday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. beginning on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 and ending on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the following six locations:

Leonard Merrell, Center Room 143-144,, 6301 S. Stadium Lane, Katy, TX 77494

Seven Lakes High School, Gym Lobby, 9251 S. Fry Road, Katy, TX 77494  
Taylor High School, PAC Lobby, 20700 Kingsland Boulevard, Katy, TX 77450

A special Saturday early voting by personal appearance will also be held at these same six locations on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Voting by personal appearance on Election Day will be held from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.at the following locations:

Applications for ballot by mail: shall be mailed to: Justin R. Graham, Elections Administrator Katy I.S.D., Education Support Complex 6301 South Stadium Lane Katy, TX 77494 Applications for ballot by mail must be received no later than the close of business on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. Applications by mail may also be emailed to evkisd@katyisd.org or faxed to 281-644-1905.

Key Dates for the 2026 City of Katy General Officers' Election

The filing period to file applications for place on the ballot is as follows:

  • First Day to File: Wednesday, January 14, 2026
  • Last Day to File: Friday, February 13, 2026

During the filing period, a candidate application may be filed in person on weekdays, except holidays, Monday - Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.; by mail; by fax; or by email. The candidate application (English and Spanish) can be downloaded and printed via the Texas Secretary of State's website: Application For A Place on the Ballot For a General Election (07-2025) and there is no filing fee.

Campaign Treasurer Appointment (Form CTA) - Required 

All candidates must file a Campaign Treasurer Appointment (Form CTA) before:

  • filing for a place on the ballot; raising or spending any campaign funds; or announcing candidacy.  Form CTA may be filed at any time with the City Secretary's Office. More information can be found here:  Texas Ethics Commission City Candidate Guide

  How to file for place on the ballot: 

  • Filing in Person: City Secretary's Office, Katy City Hall, 901 Ave C, Katy, Texas 77493. 
  • Filing by Mail: An application submitted by mail is considered to be filed at the time of its receipt by the appropriate filing authority. (Sections 143.007(b); 144.005(b)) Please be advised that an application must be notarized prior to filing via mail. The mailing address is Katy City Hall, Attn: City Secretary, 901 Ave C, Katy, Texas 77493.
  • Filing by Fax or Email: A signed, sworn, scanned candidate application (and petition, if applicable) may be submitted by fax or email. Please be advised that an application must be notarized prior to filing via fax or email.

All applications will be reviewed upon filing for acceptance as soon as practicable and within five (5) days of receipt.

2027 Elections 

The 2027 Regular Officers' Election will be held Saturday, May 1, 2027, if called.  The following positions are up for election in the 2027 General Officers' Election for a three-year term:

  • Councilmember Ward A (Office currently held by Dan Smith)
  • Councilmember Ward B (Office currently held by Gina Hicks)

This Council shall consist of one Councilmember elected from the City At large and four Councilmembers elected from the Wards established by the City designated within the City as Ward A., and Ward B.; the Councilmembers shall be elected two from Ward A., and two from Ward B., and one at-large. The candidate for Councilmember from a Ward shall reside in the Ward for which he seeks election. The candidate for Councilmember must be a citizen of the United States, at least twenty-one (21) years of age, a qualified voter residing within the City for at least twelve (12) months prior to his election. He shall not hold any other public office. 

2028 Elections 

The 2028 Regular Officers' Election will be held Saturday, May 6, 2028, if called.  The following positions are up for election in the 2028 General Officers' Election for a three-year term:

  • Mayor (Office currently held by William H.  "Dusty" Thiele) 

Office of Mayor/Qualifications:  the Office of Mayor of the City of Katy, Texas, was established under the Katy Home Rule Charter, the incumbent of which shall be a citizen of the United States, at least twenty-one (21) years of age, a qualified voter, residing for at least twelve (12) months prior to his election within the City; he shall not hold any other public office. The Mayor shall be elected from the City at large; he shall hold his office for three years and/or until his successor is elected and qualified unless sooner removed as provided by this Article.
