Property & Evidence Room

The Property Room is the lead accountability agent for the management, preservation, and control of property and evidence. It is our mission to provide accountability and service to citizens, law enforcement officials, and prosecutors, who rely on the evidence and goods stored, maintained, and tracked by the department. The Property Room works closely with the District Attorney’s office and courts to determine what evidence and property can be processed for disposal.

Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday 8 am to 5 pm, closed on all City holidays. (the last appointment is 4:30 pm).

All property is release by appointment only. Appointments are made by calling 281-574-8631.

  • Case Number
  • Proof of Ownership
  • Government issued Identification

 

PROPERTY RELEASE INFORMATION

The Property Room can ONLY release property when the proper authorization has been received. Authorization comes from a court or the investigator when the property is no longer necessary for law enforcement purposes. To speak with the investigator assigned to your case contact 281-391-4848. Contact the corresponding District Attorney’s Office if the case has been dismissed and file a Motion to Restore Personal Property;

SPECIAL INSTRUCTION FOR FIREARMS

If you are attempting to retrieve a firearm, please have your case number or the firearm serial number available so that we may assist you. There is a 30 day hold on all safekeeping firearms. When it is determined that your firearm can be released you will be required to show proof of ownership, government issued identification, and successfully pass a criminal background check. We adhere to Federal guidelines:(18 U.S.C. § 922[g][1-9]). We will provide the background check. We do not release firearms after 4:30pm.

 

HAVING ANOTHER PERSON RETRIEVE YOUR PROPERTY

If you are having another person retrieve your property, the owner must have notarized documentation specifying the individual who will be collecting the property and specify the property to be picked up. They will be required to bring proof of ownership and government issued identification. *NOT APPLICABLE TO FIREARMS or MONEY.
