The Adopt-A-Spot program provides an opportunity for community organizations, schools, businesses, civic groups, churches, or families to show pride in Katy by volunteering to adopt a public area for the purpose of litter reduction and beautification.

Volunteers are responsible for picking up thousands of pounds of litter each year from Katy’s roadways, contributing to a cleaner, more beautiful city; a higher quality of life for residents; and a vibrant local economy. Being an adopter gives participants an opportunity to give back to the community, teach their children about community responsibility, receive positive publicity for their business, and gain valuable community service experience. Participants commit to a two-year investment and must clean up their spot a minimum of 4 times per year.

Keep Katy Beautiful continues their Adopt-a-Wreath tradition each year! During the Christmas season, many wreaths are adopted and decorated by local businesses and then hung in Historic Downtown Katy to be on display for the holiday season.

Keep Katy Beautiful has designated the following as Legacy Trees. Recognition of Katy’s iconic, historic and outstanding trees is based on age, size, species, quality, historic association and/or landmark importance.

The Keep Katy Beautiful Board conducts an annual Litter Survey throughout the City of Katy.  Litter surveys such as those conducted via the Texas Litter Database or Keep America Beautiful, are evidence-based processes that identify, map, and quantify litter to create targeted reduction strategies. They generally classify waste by size (large vs. micro) and type (plastic, cigarette butts) to track hot spots. Areas identified as needing attention are documented for cleanup efforts.

Community members may honor their loved ones through the purchase of honorary or memorial benches through the Keep Katy Beautiful board. These benches are placed in locations of honor throughout the City of Katy parks, creating lasting tributes within our community’s green spaces.

Nine Natives Showcase Garden at The Johnny Nelson Katy Heritage Museum

The many beautiful plants in this pocket prairie are native to this neighborhood, absorb water, and teach us about our region's variety of ecosystems. The nectar and seeds they produce are also critical to dwindling populations of native bees, butterflies, and migratory birds. Lastly, this garden is a living laboratory that teaches us science and ignites our imagination!

A Pocket of Rare Habitat

The coastal prairie of Texas and Louisiana is one of the most endangered natural areas on Earth. This lush grassland once covered over 9 million acres, including most of the Katy area. Today very little of the prairie remains in pristine condition. Every piece of prairie matters - even small plantings like this one at the Johnny Nelson Katy Heritage Museum.
